Water
One of my Trickster Mystery School assignments was to observe what water is the closest to us and what do we wish for it. The closest water to me are two water bowls out back for the critters--predators and prey--and a birdbath in our front entryway. Looking further I see water storage by way of the mighty saguaro, prickly pear and barrel cacti that are omnipresent. Our community at “El Mirador” is exploring our own sources of water storage and harvesting (at long last!).
I live in the surreally beautiful Sonoran Desert where water is scarce and held underground in dissipating aquafirs. The hydrologists say that Tucson is in good shape for water storage, whereas excessive Phoenix is not. Thankfully, we had one of the wettest days on record this June, never mind some of the hottest. Having a good monsoon season is paramount to survival in the desert. The mesquite, paloverde and sage-like shrubs, as well as the hearty critters, will long survive humans who are dependent on a daily supply of clean water, not to mention air conditioning.
I wish for all desert flora and fauna to be well nourished and hydrated with one of the most precious commodities on planet Earth. This substance that we’re probing other planets for in our solar system is what sustains life and is becoming the new "liquid gold”. I wish that clean, flourishing water be available to all and that it never become a commodity to be bought and sold to the highest bidders. May precious water be worshipped (like the sun) and used wisely to sustain all!
